A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE

Set in the midst of the viking expansion era in the late 9th century. An Irish Monk living on a remote island rock must confront grief and contend with despair as his hope falls into decay. It becomes a question of his own morality, as he endures a life of complete solitude. Being torn between defeat and finding a path for resolve.

Filmed against the captivating landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way. Principal photography began on location at the oldest, northern-most island in Ireland. The film officially premiered at Disappear Here Film Festival in Donegal, Ireland on September 24th. It has now entered the International film festival circuit for 2022/23.

A film born from personal experience, it serves as an exploration of mental health through a narrative lens and as a journey of personal growth and self-reflection. The story revolves around finding the inner strength to overcome personal obstacles that may seem world-ending. It’s about discovering hope in the darkest moments, where no light is in sight. The film touches on the idea of resilience in the midst of chaos, much like an island in stormy weather. The greatest conflict to resolve always arises from within.

WHATS IN THE FRAME

This film has garnered widespread acclaim on the international film circuit, accumulating an impressive array of awards. Notable accolades include The Northern Exposure award at the Disappear Here Film Festival in Donegal, where Niall Duffy was recognised for emerging talent in the northwest of Ireland. Additionally, it secured the Best Feature Fiction award at the Louth International Film Festival and was honoured with the title of Best Historic Film at the New Renaissance Film Festival in London. The film notably received numerous Best Director awards at various festivals, including the The London Director Awards, Underground Cinema Awards in Ireland, Wolverhampton Film Festival, and the Emerging Talent Film Festival in London, among many others.
